07/08/2008At the recent Drupa exhibition in Germany, PFE's Orion Division (now part of Neopost) displayed a
“Variable Data Transpromo Print Application” producing an
itemised invoice with a “Tear Off” giro payment slip, plus promotional subject matter.
This display
was intended to show PFE Orion’s commitment to developing pre and post processing equipment to
enhance the function of the latest “New Breed” high-speed digital printers.
Working extremely well
in this demonstration showed the unwinding, digital printing, post-processing, and rewinding to a
high quality.
Pre-Processing
The system incorporated an Orion Unwind Model TU5020 feeding plain Modo Preprint Plus Paper into the
new Orion Paper Processor Model BPP520. The Paper Processor has been designed to meet the exacting
requirements for specialist printers who wish to convert plain paper on reels into complex custom
documents, the BPP520 is an extremely versatile unit which can be configured with up to 4 paper
converting devices, including sprocket punching, pattern die cutting, file hole punching, ink jet
print heads, horizontal and vertical perforators.
Digital Printing
The itemised bill was printed on the new Océ VarioStream 8000 high-speed, wide printer. The bill data
was outputted to the printer via Océ PRISMA Production output management software.
Post-Processing
The system incorporated an Orion Unwind Model TU5020 feeding plain Modo Preprint Plus Paper into the
new Orion Paper Processor Model BPP520. The Paper Processor has been designed to meet the exacting
requirements for specialist printers who wish to convert plain paper on reels into complex custom
documents, the BPP520 is an extremely versatile unit which can be configured with up to 4 paper
converting devices, including sprocket punching, pattern die cutting, file hole punching, ink jet
print heads, horizontal and vertical perforators. The itemised bill was printed on the new Océ
VarioStream 8000 high-speed, wide printer. The bill data was outputted to the printer via Océ PRISMA
Production output management software. On the output of the printer was the newly released Dynamic
Perforator Model DPU20. The DPU20 Dynamic Perforating Unit is a pinless unit and can be used on or
offline, it’s capable of producing selective custom perforating patterns including horizontal and
vertical perforation lines. Document depths are programmable making the unit ideally suited for
producing itemised bills with tear off stubs or complex patterned perforations, the document depths
can be varied from 11” to 14” all controlled via the operator touch screen.
In our itemised bill application the DPU was reading a small optical mark on the last page of every
bill and producing a horizontal and vertical perforation on the giro payment slip.
The output was then rewound into large diameter reels on an Orion Rewinder Model TR5020 for
subsequent processing.
Built into the rewinder was an IntegraScan camera inspection system from Lake Image Systems. Using
high resolution imaging technology, IntegraScan provides real time data verification and print
quality analysis for enhanced process control and data integrity. By reading the unique and variable
data on each document, IntegraScan can verify with the original print file to identify duplicate and
missing documents and print quality issues, while providing full integrity and productivity
reporting.
