Royal Mail has reduced the booking times for unaddressed mail campaigns to give retailers even greater flexibility to seize on newly-identified opportunities in the run up to Christmas.

Retailers can now book Door to Door campaigns three weeks before distribution, enabling them to more quickly respond to new marketing opportunities. Previously, the latest booking time was four weeks before a campaign was due for delivery.

Changes to the service also mean that the latest retailers can hand items to Royal Mail for distribution has been reduced to three working days, by arrangement, from seven days.

The improvements to the service come as Royal Mail, for the first time, gears up to deliver Door to Door mail throughout the Christmas period.

Phil Ricketts, Head of Strategy, Sales and Marketing for Door to Door, Royal Mail, said: "This increased flexibility means that retailers can respond to consumer demand or trends in-store much more quickly. Royal Mail research has also revealed that consumers rate samples and vouchers as the most sought-after unaddressed items so, with Christmas just around the corner, now is a great time to plan such promotional activity to drive customers to stores and websites.

"Extending the delivery window throughout the Christmas period opens up a world of opportunities for retailers to communicate effectively with key consumer audiences, at a time of year when many stores are looking to increase footfall and brands are seeking to involve customers in promotional offers."

He added: "This increased flexibility for the Door to Door service adds extra value to a channel which can provide tightly targeted, time-sensitive campaigns directly to consumers’ doors."

The improvement to the service follows the development of an online service allowing marketers to take a more intelligent approach to their Door to Door campaigns.

Customer Finder was developed to help businesses find and target new consumers or business clients more easily and efficiently, ultimately increasing ROI. The web-based service showcases functionality including choosing targets, granular search criteria, and building maps and reports.
