The direct mail industry is likely to be watching developments in Germany very closely over the coming weeks after it was announced that a company there has become the first European organisation to take receipt of new printing technology.

With direct mail providers across the world looking to reduce their overheads while simultaneously maintaining high mailroom standards, it has been announced that Meiller Direct is to test the new Kodak Stream Printhead technology over the summer.

According to the manufacturers, by enabling high-speed variable data printing with offset-class output, the inkjet technology could make life a lot easier for mailing intelligence professionals in both the public and private sectors.

Announcing the news, Achim Groth, production manager for finishing at Meiller Direct, told Print Week: "We demand the highest quality in our print materials and the benefits offered by Kodak's Stream Printheads are enormous - much sharper type, finer details, and better rendering of grey levels."

It is expected that the technology will be given an official European launch towards the start of 2010.

This comes just days after the Royal Mail announced the launch of a new tamper-proof stamp, which will not be able to be re-used.ADNFCR-1606-ID-19195551-ADNFCR
