The UK's most famous postman may become immortalised in a sculpture at South Lakeland Park in Cumbria.

Postman Pat, whose fictional round was based on the experiences of rural Cumbrian postmen, is a favourite for the scheme which will see a chainsaw sculpture constructed in Abbot Hall Park at Kirkland in Kendal, reports the Westmorland Gazette.

The chosen concept will be created from a beech tree stump and aims to promote the cultural sector within Kendal.

Councillor Graham Vincent, who is also backing the proposal, told the local news provider: "The idea of producing a tree sculpture out of the tree stump at Abbot Hall has been talked about for quite a few years now.

"However, nothing really happened so the Kirkland Partnership took it on and it is something we are actively exploring."

Councillor Chris Hogg added that Postman Pat was strongly connected to the area and was therefore a fitting and light-hearted option.

Postman Pat is an animated children's series that was originally screened in 1981, before being revised in 2004.ADNFCR-1606-ID-19272403-ADNFCR
