A woman from London was astonished when an envelope containing £100 cash that had been accidentally posted in May was found and the money returned to her.
Sarah Lockett had placed the money in an envelope for her cleaner, marked only with the woman's first name, reports the Daily Telegraph.
Her young children had mistakenly posted the envelope through a post box and although she did not expect it to be recovered she filled out a lost mail claim form.
The envelope was sent from her local sorting office to the lost mail centre in Belfast where an employee matched it with the record of her claim and returned the money.
Ms Lockett told the national newspaper: "I did not think I would ever see it again because there was no address on the envelope and I thought if someone found it they would take the cash.
Some 250,000 undeliverable cheques arrive at the lost mail centre in Belfast, where 300 postal staff work to ensure the valuables arrive at their intended destination or are returned.
