Royal Mail workers are astonished by a new directive from management that has ordered the supplying of sun cream to be halted.
Bosses at the mailing company have stopped providing their employees with sun protection because they fear that anyone who does not apply it effectively and then contracts skin cancer will find grounds to sue the company, reports the Daily Mail.
The company has said that it is providing workers with water to ensure they do not become dehydrated as well as hats and appropriate clothing.
Melly Hill, of the Communication Workers Union, told the news provider: "The legal people looked at it and said that if Royal Mail provided sun cream and then people didn't use it and got skin cancer then they would be liable."
NHS advises people take steps not to get burned in the sun during the heatwave as this is a risk factor in developing skin cancer.
