23/07/2009Royal Mail has been commended for working to improve health and wellbeing among employees.
Business in the Community's Awards for Excellence has named the mailing company as recipient of its Healthy Workplace Award.
Royal Mail's series of measures including health screenings and events, counselling and health, nutrition and wellbeing advice has saved the company £15 million in sickness absenteeism.
Dr Will Cavendish, director of Health and Wellbeing at the Department of Health and Healthy Workplaces award judge, commented: "I congratulate Royal Mail for their achievement as an Example of Excellence.
They have shown leadership and commitment, and have driven through a programme that is both innovative and replicable showing real impact to the bottom line and also to the health of their employees.
"The judges were particularly impressed by the scale and significance of their programme particularly during a time of change and restructuring."
Earlier this week (July 21st) Royal Mail announced that it is to invest £120 million in modernisation initiatives.
